Day after day, Russian forces bombed the city of Mariupol. Hundreds of Ukrainians hid inside a theater where one couple took charge of keeping everyone alive.
to the Ukrainian port city of Mariupol, battering apartment blocks and killing civilians, more than 1,000 people took shelter inside the local performing-arts theater.
Evgeniya, a theater lighting technician, and her husband, Sergey, arrived on Feb. 25 and welcomed the first few dozen people. “Someone had to go and help,” she said.
