Met Eireann's long-range forecast for December predicts higher-than-average temperatures and higher-than-average precipitation for Christmas week, from December 23 to December 29. This means a white Christmas is unlikely, and mild weather will prevail.
The countdown to Christmas is well and truly underway, and with it comes the much-anticipated question: What will the weather be like this festive season?
Alongside the unseasonably warm temperatures, the weather agency has also indicated a "slight signal for higher-than-average precipitation". In other words, while it might be mild, you may want to keep an umbrella handy for any Christmas outings. In its update, Met Eireann states: “For Christmas week, current indications are mixed with confidence in the forecast low. There is however a slight signal for higher than average precipitation amounts for late December, along with higher than average temperatures.”
