EXCLUSIVE: A street in Ferguslie, Paisley, nearby to St Mirren’s stadium, now looks like “a set from a war movie” after years of neglect, locals said.

Up to 100 former council houses have been left abandoned and derelict by a Scots council in a “scandalous” failure to tackle the housing emergency, it’s been claimed.

They said many of the homes could have been saved and refurbished relatively quickly instead of being knocked down. "The intention was to demolish these homes and build new homes. But the demolition contractor has been working very slowly on these homes."The council said it was not worth re-letting the Ferguslie ones and it would cost too much to refurb them.”

A spokesman said: "As part of our ongoing regeneration of Ferguslie Park, the Making of Ferguslie plan has been developed in partnership with the local community and sets out a vision for the area's future - including a range of actions that will reimagine underused land, improve greenspaces, and support community initiatives.

But it comes as we’ve told how a brutal housing shortage and a runaway property market have put many Scots in an impossible situation - with homelessness rates rising worryingly. Last month, the Record spoke to homeless people on the streets of Glasgow who said they were “hacked off” at the “crazy” amount of properties sitting abandoned.
