Up to 50 guests displaced after fire damages Talmadge motel; cause undetermined [Breaking]
Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire in a motel room in the Talmadge area early Monday morning that forced about 50 people to find new lodging, officials said.
The blaze was reported inside a room at the La Cresta Motel just before 4:50 a.m. More than 35 firefighters responded and police officers helped evacuate the building, officials said. The fire was knocked down at 5:05 a.m. and up to 50 guests were displaced for a day because of electrical issues, said San Diego Fire-Rescue spokesperson Maria Gamez.
A Red Cross spokesperson said those who were displaced should contact the motel’s management to secure a refund or assistance with finding other lodging.The fire was mostly contained to one room and a slightly damaged a neighboring room, said police Sgt. Rick Pechin of the Metro Arson Strike Team. Pechin said investigators were unable to determine the cause of the fire.
“One female was inside at the time and she was able to make it out without any injuries. The room sustained major fire damage,” Pechin said in an email. “The fire investigators were unable to determine an exact cause but smoking materials or an intentional act could not be ruled out as the cause.”
