Authorities said all eastbound lanes of I-580 in Livermore have reopened early Thursday evening after police activity forced CHP to close that direction of the freeway for hours.
Drivers are advised to take alternative routes to avoid the traffic congestion. There were reports that the traffic was clogging side streets in Livermore and Pleasanton, filling residential streets and making the evening commute grind to a standstill.
While authorities did not say what the police activity was related to, Chopper 5 video from the scene showed CHP officers thoroughly searching lanes for evidence.CHP announced that all lanes had reopened shortly after 5 p.m., nearly three hours after the incident began.Drivers should expect residual delays.
