Tanaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Michael Martin has issued a reminder about Irish Passports ahead of the upcoming Easter holidays.

It's that time of the year when many people across Ireland will be preparing to spend their Easter break abroad or thinking about booking a summer holidayMichael Martin today issued an urgent warning to anyone travelling abroad in the coming months.

The Tanaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs reminded Irish citizens to check their passport’s expiry date.Getting a new passport can take some time, so make sure you have plenty of it before your holiday starts. Mr Martin confirmed the current turnaround times for a ‘simple adult renewal’ is 10 working days.

Depending on where you're going, you might need a certain amount of time left on your passport. For example, if you're travelling from Ireland to Spain, it is recommended to have at least three months left after your return date. Mr Martin said: “I would encourage anyone who is considering travel over the Easter break or this summer to check that their passport is in date, and to use Passport Online if they need to renew their passport or apply for the first time. Passport Online is the fastest and most convenient way to apply for your passport.”

Citizens can start renewing their passport before it runs out via the Department of Foreign Affairs' Passport Online service.According to the DFA, most passport applications involve the following five steps:A spokesperson said: “The Passport Service is successfully meeting high demand for passports with turnaround times at or well ahead of target and no backlogs.”A standard 10-year passport costs €75 for an adult and €20 for a child.Join the Irish Mirror’s breaking news service on WhatsApp.
