An urgent recall has been issued for a popular Christmas cushion sold in the Republic of Ireland over safety fears. Ireland's Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) issued a public notice on Thursday warning that a safety issue was identified with the Reindeer Shaped Assorted Cushions sold by retailer The Range and Wilko. The Range store have been selling a variety of festive cushions, shaped like gingerbread, penguins and reindeer.
But it's now become apparent that they could pose a choking hazard to young children. According to the CCPC, due to poor stitching, the seams of the Reindeer Shaped Assorted Cushions could be torn and the filling of the cushion can therefore become loose, which poses a threat of choking. There are approximately 101 affected products in the Republic of Ireland. The affected products come with the barcode is 9404909000 and batch number 53324. The CCPC has urged customers to stop using this product immediately and keep it out of the reach of children. 'Customers should stop using the product immediately and return it to any The Range store for a full refund,' the notice states. 'If customers have any further queries in relation to this recall, please contact The Range customer care team here.' This latest product recall comes after Lidl Ireland issued an urgent recall for its Deluxe Sriracha Cheddar Cheese Wedge due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes. The symptoms of this infection can include mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal issues such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. A statement on the Food Standard Authority of Ireland (FSAI) website warns: 'In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications. 'Some people are more vulnerable to Listeria monocytogenes infections, including pregnant women, babies, and people with weakened immune systems, including the elderly. The incubation period (time between initial infection and first symptoms appearing) is on average three weeks but can range between three and 70 days.
