While Spain is known for its sunny climate, extreme weather events can occur and deadly Storm Nelson is currently battering the country. Irish holidaymakers heading to the country over the Easter break are being advised to be prepared for the stormy weather.

Deadly Storm Nelson has made landfall in Spain and is expected to continue battering the country for a number of days.

A spokesman for the local Civil Guard said: “The victim was a British man who was in the area on holiday and normally resides in the UK. He was enjoying a walk along the breakwater with his wife and was swept off his feet after approaching the edge.” The Spanish meteorological service AEMET has issued a spate of weather warnings - including some Status Orange - for strong winds, coastal flooding, heavy rainfall and even snow storms.Giving an update on the weather for this weekend, it said: “March 29 to 31 will be marked by the influence of Storm Nelson, which will bring a storm of wind and abundant rainfall to the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands.
