In addition to losing a vital supply of water, rapid melting of the glaciers could lead to avalanches and flash floods. ,’ said co-author Amina Maharjan, senior livelihoods specialist at ICIMOD. ‘Current adaptation efforts are wholly insufficient, and we are extremely concerned that without greater support, these communities will be unable to cope.’The report, titled Water, Ice, Society, And Ecosystems In The Hindu Kush Himalaya, found glaciers in the region have shrunk 65% faster since 2010 than in the ten years before.
