It was confirmed last month that Michael McGrath would stand down as Finance Minister and would be Ireland’s sole nomination for the EU Commissioner role
Ireland seems likely to only nominate Michael McGrath as its EU Commissioner despite Ursula von der Leyen writing to the Government requesting both a male and female nominee.
She stated last week she would "write a letter and ask for the proposal of a man and a woman" commissioner candidate. "We will respond in due course to that. The jurisdiction is within the government's realm in terms of the appointment of commissioners to be the country's nominee," he said."We’ll consider that correspondence.
