The new dial colour will have horological fans green with envy

While the watch world may be slower to recycling trends than fashion, the resurgence of the green dial suggests that many horologists have been looking back to 2019 with delight. The earthy tone was a bit of thing pre-pandemic, with it being a favourite hue of plenty of brands as well as customers. That was then trumped by a favouring for cartoon-inspired dials, thanks to Rolex’s emoji and bubble watches – the antithesis of the rather un-fun years of lockdowns and face masks.

TAG Heuer, Zenith and Hublot all debuted a flurry of them during LVMH Watch Week this past January, while Blancpain’s take came in the form of a Year of the Dragon-inspired watch for Chinese New Year. And at this year’s Watches and Wonders, Vacheron Constantin presents a green dial as the newest addition to the Overseas collection. The mossy hue comes as a natural progression from its emblematic deep-sea dial, and can be found on the 35 mm gemset, 41 mm date, 42.
