After changing her display name, she posted dozens of tweets in support of Democratic candidates. Then she 'fessed up.
Actor Valerie Bertinelli became Elon Musk on Twitter to show flaws in his new verification system by posting dozens of tweets in support of Democratic candidates this weekend.
Along with Bertinelli, many celebrities and politicians are also speaking out against Musk and his decision to charge a fee for verified accounts. “The blue checkmark simply meant your identity was verified,” Bertinelli wrote on Twitter after changing her name. “Scammers would have a harder time impersonating you. That no longer applies. Good luck out there!”
As “Elon Musk,” the actor posted hashtags like #VoteBlueToProtectYourRights and shared tweets supporting gubernatorial candidates Gretchen Whitmore in Michigan and Beto O’Rourke in Texas, among others.
