Dimitri van den Bergh is set to face Luke Humphries in the quarter-finals of the World Matchplay, and he has made some bold claims ahead of the match
Dimitri van den Bergh has hit out at Luke Humphries, claiming he's "living in Luke Littler's shadow" despite his World Championship triumph earlier this year.
He claimed: "I have to believe that I can do it again . If I can go into a preparation where I say; 'I can give him a game', that's a big positive. Unfortunately for Luke Humphries, I'm just going to point this out now, he is the world champion and he's living in Luke Littler's shadow. That's something that has never happened before in the past."
Despite Luke 'Cool Hand' Littler's impressive victory, Van den Bergh insists that Humphries must contend with the fact that Littler, who triumphed in the Premier League on his first attempt, is now a more prominent figure in darts. Littler may have been knocked out early at the World Matchplay by Michael van Gerwen, but he remains a hot topic, continuing to 'haunt' Humphries during media sessions.
"He takes a long, long time to take his darts out. That's not what I'm used to with him. Obviously this is a new adaption for his game and is going to take a lot of getting used to for players."
