Local residents were warned to stay at home amid ongoing disorder
Violence erupted in Harehills at about 5pm on Thursday after police officers scrambled to reports of a disturbance involving agency workers and children in Luxor Street.
Yvette Cooper said in a post on X on Thursday: “I am appalled at the shocking scenes and attacks on police vehicles & public transport in Leeds tonight. Disorder of this nature has no place in our society.” A spokesperson for First Bus in Leeds said: “Two of our vehicles have been caught up in the public disorder in the Harehills area of Leeds this evening.“One of our vehicles has been set on fire but was empty as the customers had earlier been transferred to another bus together with the driver.”Officers were called to an incident at an address in Luxor Street at 5pm on Thursday where they found an “ongoing disturbance” involving agency workers and children.
In a statement issued on Thursday, West Yorkshire Police said additional officers were deployed to the area to assist with the management of the incident.
