The seven-time Grand Slam singles champion withdrew from the Melbourne tournament after sustaining an undisclosed injury during a tournament in New Zealand, the tournament announced on Friday. In 2022, Both Venus and Serena Williams missed the Australian Open for the first time in more than 20 years. In doubles, the two combined to win the women’s title four times – 2001, 2003, 2009 and 2010.
