The Bahrain Grand Prix, moved to Malaysia due to regional conflict, was marred by a lengthy rain delay but delivered a thrilling contest. Max Verstappen recovered from a poor start to win his first race of the season, while Lewis Hamilton's strategic prowess and speed earned him a podium position despite starting on the wrong tire compound.
Red Bull's Max Verstappen secured his first victory of the 2026 season at the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia, overcoming a chaotic start delayed by heavy rain.
The race finally began with a standing start, but Verstappen lost his pole position advantage as Mercedes drivers Kimi Antonelli and George Russell overtook him on intermediate tires. A crucial safety car period triggered by Valtteri Bottas' spin allowed Verstappen to switch to slicks and reclaim the lead, which he held until the finish line.
Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton, who had dropped from second to sixth due to an ill-timed tire choice, mounted a remarkable comeback to secure third place, while Russell's podium hopes were dashed by a late engine failure.
