The funeral saw a large crowd attend St Catherine’s Church in Dublin before burial in Mount Jerome Cemetery. Family members and associates, including those from Byrne's organized crime group, were present.

Also seen among them was Jaws' son James Jr, and his grandson Lee. In a speech before mourners at the end of the Mass, Lee thanked the doctors, nurses and staff at Tallaght Hospital for caring for Jaws in his final weeks - and went on to speak about his role as a grandfather. Symbols brought to the altar to represent Jaws life included his glasses and a Lotto ticket, the TV remote control, and a family photograph.
Sources say Byrne, who was affectionately known by those closest to him as ‘Jemmy’, stood by as associates close to him ordered Kinahan cartel members to murder anyone they believed was associated with his son’s killing.
