Nicola Hanney, a victim of coercive control, appeared on The Late Late Show to discuss her new book 'Stronger: What Didn’t Kill Me, Made Me'. Hanney detailed the abuse she suffered at the hands of her ex-partner, former Garda Paul Moody, who is due for release from prison later this year.
Victim of coercive control , Nicola Hanney joined Patrick Kielty on the Late Late Show last night, discussing her new book, Stronger: What Didn’t Kill Me, Made Me.
Describing what Paul was like in the initial stages of their relationship, Nicola said: “Paul was great. Like, just even from the first message I remember he just had that personality. You know, even in the first messages, he knew how to make a girl laugh. He was very charming.
“The same thing that happened me the first time, my hand was drawn to my breast and I found a lump again”. When Nicola returned home after her son was born: “I went home and my whole apartment had been stripped. Every single thing you can imagine, down to the toilet brush, to biscuits I had bought, I had everything organised for all my visitors coming to see me and the baby….
“To me, on the way home in the car after the court case, I honestly felt like somebody had died… there was nothing to celebrate for me. That was my child’s father. That affected me for a long time after that”.
