A 42-year-old motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene on the M50 on Friday after colliding with a lorry, while a 62-year-old man died on Saturday when his bicycle was struck by a taxi in the city centre
A 42-year-old motorcyclist who was killed in a horrific crash involving a lorry on the M50 on Friday has been named locally.
The driver of the lorry, who is aged in his 50s, was taken to hospital following the accident but his injuries are not believed to be serious. A large section of the motorway was closed for several hours as a result of the collision on Friday, causing significant delays around the city.READ MORE: Gardaí appeal for witnesses after body recovered from car that entered water in Donegal
Meanwhile, the victim of a separate collision that occurred in Dublin city centre at the weekend has also been named locally as Peter Murphy from Crumlin. The 62-year-old died when his bicycle collided with a taxi around 5.30am on Saturday morning on Dame Street. The latest tragedies mean 76 people have been killed on the roads this year. Nine motorcyclists and five cyclists have died since January, according to Dublin Live. The victims include 28 drivers, 20 passengers, and 14 pedestrians.
