The stars turned out in force for the opening of the Japanese-inspired steakhouse by David Grutman and Bad Bunny.
, who split time between the UK and South Florida. Three of the four Beckham kids were there, too: Romeo, Cruz, and Harper . DJ Khaled stopped by, as did Devon Windsor, as did Future, as did many more.
The draw – in August, no less, a time when Miami is historically quieter than usual – was a testament to Grutman and Bunny’s power. The former is well versed in fusing hospitality and entertainment with such places as LIV, the popular nightclub, and The Goodtime Hotel, at which he is partners with Pharrell Williams. The latter, well, let’s just say this writer hasn’t seen that kind of fan turnout in a long, long time – Bunny is hyper-famous.
Inside, the atmosphere was high-energy but refined. Gekkō’s cavernous rooms, with matte-black cathedral ceilings, vaulted above, feel surprisingly intimate for the scale – something Grutman was insistent upon. “Think of your go-to steakhouse. It’s familiar and personal. Then, imagine that with Japanese cuisine, too, and a Miami spin. Colour, texture, great music. That’s what we’re aiming for with Gekkō,” he said.
As for the fits? Grutman’s wife, Isabela, wore a sharp Saint Laurent bodysuit, Cruz Beckham looked cool in a bleached-denim outsized jacket, and Bunny was in head-to-toe Louis Vuitton. “Though,” he said, “the boxers are Versace.”
