Hunter Tice, 23, spent hours speaking with responding deputies and a crisis-negotiation team before stepping out of his truck and charging at the deputies.
Tice was found by officers sitting in the driver’s seat of a dark blue truck with a knife pointed at himself. Both responding officers and a crisis-negotiation team spoke with him, asking him to put down the knife and step out of the car.
At about 2:45 a.m. Tice said he would step out of the vehicle. But with the knife in hand, he charged at officers nearby. More than one officer fired, hitting him multiple times. Medical aid was given on scene by both deputies and Orange County Fire Authority paramedics.Per protocol, the investigation into the shooting will be handled by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
