'I am not a victim. What choice do you have? You can fight for your life and help other people. I've spent 49 years creating a life that I'm happy with and I'm not going to throw that away.'
The Tommy Tiernan Show returned to our TV screens tonight and it kicked off with a fantastic interview with Tommy's first guest tonight is author, editor, stylist and Parkinson’s advocate Annmarie O’Connor.
"I woke up and had a pain in my right shoulder and I couldn’t remember tweaking it but I paid no heed to it. It got progressively worse. I knew I had to take my bra off to shower but I actually didn’t have the mobility to even remove my own bra.Annmarie admitted she never thought she would be diagnosed with disease, particularly at such a young age:
"We know dopamine as the reward chemical but it’s also responsible for movement, speech and coordination, the things that rule your life.Despite the affects on her life, Annmarie says she will never give up: "If you're living in despair or having a moment of thinking 'Why bother?'. You don't have the energy to get to joy, but you can get to anger, which is better than despair. Then you can channel that anger towards hope, which can become contentment and satisfaction.
