'I have been taken aback by the irresponsibility shown'
A child was taken to hospital and another thought she was going to die after buying alcohol from a village shop in west Northamptonshire. The store had sold hard liquor and spirits to 12-year-olds.
The convenience store in Main Road was subject to a licensing hearing at the end of June after an investigation by Northants Police’s Licensing Team and supported by the South Northants Neighbourhood Policing Team. The force had found the store had repeatedly served alcohol, including hard liquor, to underage customers.
Members at the hearing heard evidence from multiple people including a parent of a girl who the store began serving alcohol to at the age of 12. They also heard from a girl who was served alcohol and on one occasion became so drunk afterwards she became “convinced she was going to die". Another child was so drunk they had to be hospitalised.
