Wallabies secure four-Test winning streak with victory over Argentina in Jujuy
Australia, Argentina, Wallabies

Australia opened their two-Test tour of Argentina with a 27-21 win in San Salvador de Jujuy, scoring two early tries to set up a result that extended Les Kiss's winning start and delivered the Wallabies their first four-match winning streak within a calendar year since 2021.

Australia scored twice in the opening eleven minutes and protected their advantage through the remainder of the contest, defeating Argentina 27-21 in San Salvador de Jujuy on Saturday.

The result marked Australia's third consecutive win under Les Kiss, who had only recently taken over as head coach. The Wallabies began his tenure with two victories over Japan earlier in the month and added a prior July triumph against Italy, meaning the streak represents the first time the national side has assembled four consecutive wins within a single calendar year since 2021.

The fixture was the opening match of a two-Test tour of Argentina and falls outside the regular Rugby Championship schedule. The four-nation tournament was paused this season to accommodate New Zealand's commercially lucrative four-Test series in South Africa. The match carried an undercard atmosphere following the heavyweight encounter between the Springboks and the All Blacks in Cape Town earlier the same day, yet Australia delivered two swift early blows of their own against the Pumas.

After only six minutes a Wallabies hooker juggled a pass just short of the try line before grounding the ball to open the scoring. Five minutes later fly-half Carter Gordon identified a weak shoulder in the Argentine defence and darted through the tackle to extend the lead. Argentina fullback Geronimo Prisciantelli replied quickly for the hosts, but Australia struck again through Fraser McReight, who added a third close-range try to maintain the comfortable margin.

Argentina gradually seized territorial control and applied sustained pressure, yet struggled to translate their dominance into points even after Australia's Potter was shown a yellow card for a ten-minute spell in the sin bin. Three minutes before halftime Argentina were awarded a free kick from a scrum directly in front of the posts, and number eight Joaquin Moro tapped the ball to himself before crashing through three static Australian defenders to score.

Australia responded before the interval as Ryan Lonergan landed the only penalty of the match, his third successful kick, with the final action of the half to extend the buffer. Early in the second half Argentina prop Boris Wenger barged over after fifty-two minutes and Santiago Carreras added his third conversion to reduce the deficit to a single point. Once again Australia replied within three minutes, with veteran flanker Tom Hooper finishing a counter-attack with a try.

Replacement Ben Donaldson missed the conversion but the visitors withstood ragged late pressure from the Pumas to seal the win. Lonergan remains a doubt for the second Test in Mendoza after sustaining the injury during the contest
