A UN-backed report on food security in the region has found 1 point 1 million people have now completely exhausted their food supplies and are facing catastrophic hunger.
The report by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification says there's a risk of famine between mid-March and May. The IPC Famine Review Committee has confirmed Famine is imminent in the northern region.UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, says the situation it as an entirely manmade disaster."The six border crossings, they need to be opened and there needs to be unrestricted flow of humanitarian assistance while we are getting some aid through at the moment.
"It's just unconscionable now that over one million people are suffering from catastrophic hunger as detailed in this report, while food and other humanitarian assistance is being restricted from crossing the border into Gaza.
However, the IPC says"since then, the conditions necessary to prevent famine have not been met and the latest evidence confirms that Famine is imminent in the northern governorates and projected to occur anytime between mid-March and May 2024".
