The Charity Commission is currently investigating claims that two videos featuring IRGC commanders giving antisemitic speeches were shown to audiences of British students. One of the videos denied the Holocaust and called for an apocalyptic war on Jews. Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron last week appeared to rule out formally banning the IRGC when he told fellow peers that the UK’s existing extensive sanctions regime against Tehran was sufficient to act against the paramilitary force and proscription would “effectively end diplomatic relations” with Iran..
Dame Margaret, who leads the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Anti-Corruption and Responsible Tax, said that when set alongside incidents such as the attack on Iranian journalist Pouria Zeraati, who has said he believes he was attacked for his job with a London-based television station critical of the Tehran regime, there is a clear case for additional action by the UK.
