It's appearing everywhere and could be fatal ⚠️

An urgent warning has been issued by the coastguard to dog walkers in Cumbria over 'fatal' dangers they might come across on local beaches.

. The substance appears in solid lumps, is usually a yellow-white colour, and smells like diesel or firelighters. It is believed palm oil arrives on our beaches after cargo ships wash out their tanks at sea. And while the oil itself is not harmful to humans, its solidified form which washes up on beaches is teeming with bacteria which can lead to serious illness or even death in dogs.Posting a warning on Facebook, Furness Coastguard said: "Palm oil has been washing up on Haverigg shore this week., but could also wash up on Walney beaches and surrounding area.

"The substance itself is harmless – it's commonly used in many foods which we eat every day. However, the solidified palm oil on beaches is teaming in toxic bacteria. It's irresistible to dogs – who then quickly get ill after eating it and without immediate treatment can quickly die. . "Sometimes it almost looks like polystyrene. It can be in massive chunks too so just keep an eye out. "
