Health experts have warned that 'the world is not prepared' for what could become an epidemic of skin infections after the first two known cases of a highly contagious fungal disease were confirmed. It has been confirmed that two women in the USA, aged 28 and 47, have Tinea, a drug-resistant ringworm.
The 28-year-old woman first reported rashes appearing on her body in the summer of 2021 and sought medical attention in December after she had large, scaly rashes across her body.Later in January 2022, a dermatologist diagnosed her with tinea and prescribed antifungal treatment after her baby was born. However, it did not make a difference, according to medics.
She ended up going to a medical centre on three separate occasions in late 2022 after her rashes started to spread. Dermatologists eventually gave two four-week medication courses which helped improve the rash by 80 per cent.
