Springhill was the original location for Féile an Phobail concerts in the 1990s
A West Belfast community has kicked off their Féile an Phobail celebrations with a unique competition. On Friday, the Springhill Community Funday, organised by Springhill Community House and Springhill residents, saw six men battle it out in a 'Wheelie Bin Race'.
An aerial video of the race has already been watched by over 100,000 people on social media with the day events being attended by over 3000 people from the community.Ciaran Cahill from Springhill Community House said: "Springhill Community House is celebrating 50 years of delivering much needed education and health services at the heart of the Community.
"We would also like to thank all those community activists, Springhill residents group, Upper Springfield resource Centre and Cumann Spoirt an Phobail who made the events possible and we look forward to continuing our work for the next 50 years." He said: "I watched the aerial footage of the Wheelie Bin race down Springhill Avenue, and it was fantastic. To see the entire community taking part in events which bring together young and old, families, entire streets, to celebrate and have fun together is amazing to see.
