The Ibrox boss spent six months working in Brazil and demonstrated his Portuguese skills.
Michael Beale’s time in Brazil might have been short-lived but the Rangers boss showed he has lost none of the linguistic skills picked up in South American after conducting a post match PSV Eindhoven interview in Portuguese with a South American reporter.
And the Englishman declared his love for the Samba stars and style as well as his former club Sao Paulo where he spent six months as assistant to iconic Brazilian goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni. While Beale resigned shortly before Ceni was sacked after a run of poor results, it didn’t diminish Beale’s affection for the country or his enjoyment.
Rangers new boy Danilo was involved in Tuesday’s pulsating 2-2 Champions League draw against PSV Eindhoven while the Dutch side have Andre Ramalho and Mauro Junior in their ranks. And Beale was interviewed aver the match by a Brazilian reporter. They started off in English. “I want to say all hello to all the Sao Paulo fans and thank you for their support,” said bilingual Beale. “They still support me now and I’ll be supporting them in the Copa do Brasil final .
Asked if he will support his old cub and watch the match, he said: “Yeah, for sure. I’m extremely excited by the signings the team has made. James Rodriguez and Moura last week scoring his first goal in that game against Flamengo and the scenes in the Morumbi are still things that make my skin tremble now because it was such a magical period.”
And after then picking up the conversation in Portuguese, the reporter says: “Your Portuguese is better than mine.” But Beale laughs: “Nowhere near it. I need to practice much more and one day I can’t wait to come back and visit my friends in Brazil. I made lots of friends in the time I was there. It’s the most beautiful football country in the world, even though sometimes you guys don’t believe it. It’s still where the best talents come from.
