Authorities in Ohio released new footage on Wednesday showing the moment a driver lost control of his Tesla and crashed into the Greater Columbus Convention Center.
The crash occurred May 4 around lunchtime when a 2020 Tesla Model S ran through a red light, going over 70 mph, according to a report.
Police said the driver testified that he lost the ability to control the vehicle's brakes on state Route 315 and had to exit onto Neil Avenue while maintaining the high speed.Footage shows the Tesla flying over the curb and ripping through the building before spinning to a stop. Had the Tesla not hit a steel support column, it may have careened into the facility, where a girls' junior volleyball championship was being played.
The damage caused by the crash totaled about $300,000, and the driver was cited for failure to control, the report noted.Whether or not the Tesla was in"Autopilot" mode has not been confirmed, the report noted.
