We compared a big shop at Asda to eight months ago and were shocked by milk, juice and chicken price rises
As the cost of living crisis continues to cripple families up and down the country, people are looking for ways to make their money go a little further. The UK inflation figure for the 12 months to May is almost five times higher than the Bank of England target of 2%.
One of the places this is most evident is in our food shops. Back in October 2021, I was able to fill a basket with enough groceries to last me a week for just shy of £20. When I did this shop last year, Asda had been named as the UK's cheapest supermarket at the Grocer Gold Awards award ceremony held by retail industry magazine, The Grocer. With this in mind, we went back to Asda to compare the price of the exact same shop we did just eight months ago, to see what has gone up, and by how much:July 22: 50pOctober 21: £1OnionsJuly 22: £1.20October 21: £2.10Overall, there has been a 15% increase in the cost of this shop.
