for the study from 2017, the researchers planned to analyse the data on children’s weight in three different ways: a continuous measure of BMI, as well as categorical measures of overweight and obesity. In the new study, though, they don’t look at BMI, and instead look at obesity and a new category called “excess weight”.to studies like this have been strongly criticised in science.
Instead, we have scientists squinting at trends in the data, potentially seeing something, in some subgroups, maybe. Those who were already in favour of the sugar tax remain so; those who weren’t in favour remain unconvinced by the meagre evidence produced in the study.
