She said: “Nurses aren’t greedy. We just want enough money to get by, maybe save up for a holiday, maybe put enough money aside to maybe even buy a house one day, it’s just a little bit of a pipe dream.”The Government has indicated it will not negotiate pay for 2022-23.
She was joined by 36-year-old Cillian Gray, a clinic nurse specialist who has worked in healthcare for half his life. Both his parents and sisters are nurses and he hopes his young daughter will go into healthcare.Mr Gray said he was on the picket line “to keep the profession going”. “People won’t come into the profession if they can’t get paid enough.”
“They take on a lot of the burdens that we can’t take on… But some do get really upset, angry and take it out on us at times.”
