We tried an award winning pie shop in the Lake District and one of them blew our head off
It's a tough job when you're editor asks you to go and taste some pies to see if they live up to their award-winning legacy, but someone has to do it. Just call me a team player.
I made my way back home with my savoury treats but with a warning ringing in my ear. The butcher had warned me not to heat the Chilli Growler or it would be too hot. I was both curious, and nervous in equal measure.Back in my butcher days, I loved nothing more than when the pork pies would come out of the oven and be filled with jelly.
As I cut it in half a little bit fell off and as most people do I picked it up and popped it in my mouth. Oh my god what a mistake! It felt like the door to hell had just opened up on my tongue. I want to say it was nice, I want to say it was juicy and tasty but all I could feel was hell's fire in my mouth and the sweat trickling down my brow.Would I try it again? Probably not. I think it lives up to its name and warning so if you like heat go for it, if not stay clear.
