The mysterious stone rings have been appearing at beauty spots in the Lakes for the last couple of years

Fascinating and mysterious stone rings started appearing at beauty spots around the Lake District in the last few years, triggering all sorts of theories as to who might be behind the skillful works of art.

Now, before I go any further, I must add a disclaimer. To reach this stone ring, you must be an experienced walker and be well equipped. We started climbing Barf up the steep scree until we reached the white stone known as The Bishop of Barf. Once you get passed that point, it's still a fair climb up, before you reach the ring, which overlooks the beautiful Bassenthwaite.

There has been lots of speculation as to how the stone rings are made and how they can stand without any support. Some say the artist is a farmer who brings a salt-lick bucket up the fell to build the stone around.
