Met Éireann has issued weather warnings for 14 counties in Ireland, with snow, sleet, thunderstorms, and strong winds expected.

Snow , sleet and thunderstorms have been confirmed by Met Eireann amid weather warnings being issued to 14 counties around Ireland . A Status Yellow wind warning is currently in place for Clare, Kerry and Limerick. They are braced for sustained strong and gusty westerly winds veering northwesterly coupled with large coastal waves. A similar alert is in place for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo until Sunday afternoon.

A prolonged period of strong winds will likely lead to some disruption over the weekend, especially to travel in Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry. Met Eireann said: 'Very windy and cold today with widespread showers for a time, falling mainly as rain or hail, but with some sleet and snow this morning. There'll be a few isolated thunderstorms at first too. 'The showers will become less widespread this afternoon, with more in the way of bright or sunny spells. 'Highest temperatures of 5 to 7 degrees in strong to gale force gusty northwest winds, reaching strong gale force for a time in some coastal parts. The winds will gradually start to moderate from the west later in the day.' They continued: 'The showers will become isolated early tonight, so it'll become mainly dry with good clear spells for a time. The winds will gradually ease too, becoming light to moderate and backing southwesterly. 'Cloud will gradually increase from the west though, with some rain and drizzle moving into Donegal towards morning. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 6 degrees, coldest further east, with perhaps a touch of frost.' Most of the country is experiencing wet conditions and wintry showers this morning. There will also be thunderstorms and temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees.
