New rules have come into place - and Malaga is one of a number of Spanish cities cracking down on tourism
Spain is taking measures to combat excessive tourism in the country, with new restrictions being introduced in some of its most popular tourist destinations.
This follows similar rules implemented last year in Alicante and Madrid, with other popular destinations such as Barcelona and Seville expected to follow suit. The move comes amid rising anti-tourism protests across Europe and complaints from residents that the tourism boom is pricing them out of the housing market. In Malaga, the registration of holiday rentals has been banned across 43 districts.
Your favourite holiday resort or Airbnb in Malaga is likely safe. However, tourist flats registered since February 22 that do not have independent access and resources separate from the residential section of buildings will have their licences cancelled.Unrelated to the suspension of rental property registrations, tourists should expect to provide more detailed personal information when registering a car for hire or hotel stay.
