Shelbourne’s League of Ireland defence began with a 3-1 win against Derry City.

Damien Duff has revealed how he handled the 45-minute delay at half-time, in Shelbourne’s Premier Division opener against Derry City , for power to be restored at Tolka Park.Luckily, an ESB repair team was able to get to the Drumcondra ground in time to fix the problem and get the lights back on - and the game restarted just over an hour after referee Rob Harvey had blown for half-time.

“We dealt with it brilliantly, we came out for the second half, it's the first and maybe last time it will happen in their career, and we saw out the game.” So he threw in a bit of video analysis and even left the dressing room for a period of time to check on the progress of the repair work. “The time was about having chats to the relevant people as certain people within the stadium were trying to get the game called off, sharpish,” said Duff.
