The US had previously opposed the resolution, but its decision not to veto the measure paved the way for the adoption of a resolution after several failed attempts – angering its ally, Israel.had made “delusional” demands, which it said showed the Palestinians were not interested in a deal. Hamas has accused Israel of stalling as it bombards Gaza.Besides calling for a ceasefire, it also demanded the immediate release of hostages and the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
“Civilians, no matter where they live, deserve to enjoy music in safety and security, and the Security Council should have the moral clarity to condemn such acts of terror equally, without discrimination,” he said, referring to the music festival targeted by Hamas militants in the attack, which left 1,200 people dead.
As a result, it is hard to say whether the vote will have any tangible effect on Israel’s military operations in Gaza, according to Dr Haim Abraham, lecturer in law at University College London.
