which led to the wrongful conviction of hundreds of sub-postmasters begins its penultimate phase this week, with campaigner Alan Bates due to appear.Several other key figures from the scandal will also appear before the inquiry in the coming months before it concludes in September. The current phase of the inquiry into the Horizon scandal is set to be focused on the sub-postmasters’ fight for justice as well as compensation efforts and the Post Office’s response to legal challenges.
“And then we start looking at prosecutions, not just that as well. Huge bonuses have been paid to people over the years. Some of that should be clawed back.” While Mr Crozier ran Royal Mail, which is responsible for the delivery of parcels and letters, it still legally owned the Post Office, the state-owned private company which operates all 11,500 Post Office branches, but the two entities were split in 2012.
Headed by retired judge Sir Wyn Williams, the inquiry began its first phase in May 2022 and is set to conclude by September 2024.
