This 'scalpcial' may not be as well-known as its facial counterpart yet, but its benefits may soon make it one of the most popular scalp treatments at dermatologists' offices and spas.

That said, you may notice a difference even if you aren't treating hair loss in other ways. "If you do have a lot of build-up on the scalp that’s interfering with the hair strands growing out, then this is a helpful treatment," Dr. Shirazi adds. "It's not a hair-stimulating treatment but more of a deep-cleansing treatment to unclog pores and exfoliate the scalp. Similar to a facial, exfoliation will allow better penetration of other products.

Regardless of your expectations, there's no harm — and a fair amount of enjoyment — in getting Keravive. Dr. Shirazi calls it "a relaxing treatment designed to cleanse, exfoliate, and hydrate the scalp," and who can really object to that? The most obvious difference between the original HydraFacial and HydraFacial Keravive is where on the body it's performed: HydraFacial occurs, of course, on the face, whereas Keravive is focused on the scalp.

"The first step is to cleanse and exfoliate in the office using a vacuum to extract any dirt, oil, or buildup from pores," Dr. Shirazi says. This HydraFacial Beta HD solution, formulated for exfoliation, is used for this step — "Beta" refers to the beta hydroxy acid in the formula,. And that's more or less where the similarities between Keravive and the original HydraFacial end.

Blancato says clients are instructed to use it once every night and to also practice scalp massage. "We repeat this process once every four weeks," she tellsKeravive is intended to be repeated three times. "It requires continued treatment to maintain results," Dr. Fromowitz says. But keep in mind, different people have different concerns and goals.
