Tonight the clocks go back by an hour, meaning we get some extra time in bed - or to prepare for Halloween tomorrow. The colder days and darker nights are a reminder of the changing of seasons, as well as the switch from British Summer Time back to Greenwich Mean Time .
The clocks always go back on the last Sunday in October and tonight they turn back at 2am. Most smartphones and some alarm clocks update the time automatically, but if you have any analogue clocks or watches around the house it's worth remembering to adjust them accordingly - you wouldn't want to be caught out.The longest night of the year - or the shortest day - is due a few days before Christmas on Wednesday December 21.
