Is Khelif a trans athlete? Despite claims online, Khelif is not transgender. Hailing from Algeria, where there is virtually zero recognition of the LGBTQ community, Khelif was born a female and is not registered as a transgender athlete. The Algerian Olympic Committee penned a strongly-worded statement defending Khelif ahead of her opening bout.
“The current aggression against these two athletes is based entirely on this arbitrary decision, which was taken without any proper procedure, especially considering that these athletes had been competing in top-level competition for many years.
