Arne Slot is yet to be officially confirmed as Jurgen Klopp's successor as Liverpool manager
As Jurgen Klopp prepares to walk out for his final match as Liverpool manager on Sunday, Arne Slot will already be saying his Feyenoord goodbyes.
As a result, four blocks of the Gerard Meijer Tribune stand - the dedicated home end - will be empty for Slot’s final match. Not that that will make it any less of an emotional occasion, with the Dutchman leading Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title and KNVB Cup, as well as a Europa Conference League final, during his three years in charge.
Yet, while Klopp’s own departure has been known since January, there has still been no official confirmation of Slot’s appointment on Merseyside, despite his assurances last week that it would be ‘only a matter of days’ before he is announced. Earlier this week it was suggested that such a delay was partly due to his assistant, Sipke Hulshoff, also being contracted to the Netherlands national team, though that has since been resolved by his resignation from the role ahead of Euro 2024.
On Sunday, the Reds will kick off against Wolves in their final outing of the campaign at 4pm. Post-match, come 6pm, there will surely be the traditional end-of-season lap-of-honour and presentation to confirmed departees, as Divock Origi, James Milner, Roberto Firmino, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita have received in the past two years.
