Many people are wondering what Gary is up to now that his sibling has a different rowing partner.
But in 2019, Gary lost his seat in the Irish double to Fintan McCarthy and hasn't been able to claim it back since. Following that, he competed in lightweight single sculls and was a reserve for the rowing team at Tokyo 2020. Gary told RTE in 2021: "I don't think there will be much of an opportunity for me to get back in the double because the guys are going so well. That opportunity is probably gone at this stage.
Since Rio 2016, Gary won a gold medal in the single sculls at at the 2018 World Championships in Bulgaria and silver at the 2018 European Championships. He has also competed in World Cups since losing his seat in the doubles.
