There’s no reason on earth he’d accept an extension with the Angels, especially since he was so underpaid by MLB’s cockamamie rules for international free agents, and there’s very little reason to think the Angels are going to contend next year, even with him,and Taylor Rogers Hornsby Ward. They needed to go Full Soto, and they didn’t.
This has to be an ownership thing, as GM Perry Minasian was able to read the writing on the division walls and figure out that he needed to trade Thor and Iglesias, bringing back a potential everyday catcher in Logan O’Hoppe and a potential back-end starter in Tucker Davidson. You could even say the Angels have some real catching depth in the minors for once, with Edgar Quero having a breakout season.
