The White House is seeking $22.4 billion from Congress to fund COVID vaccines, testing programs, clinical trials and research, as part of emergency funds totaling $47.1 billion that includes money to manage the monkeypox outbreak and to back Ukraine in its war with Russia.
The daily average for new cases stood at 87,301 on Sunday, according to a New York Times tracker, down 8% from two weeks ago. Cases are rising in 16 states, namely Georgia, Colorado, Louisiana, Vermont, Rhode Island, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Arkansas, Nebraska, Connecticut, Ohio, Illinois, Iowa, Alabama, Maine and New Hampshire, the tracker shows.
The poll found 45% of all adults surveyed believed the Democrats have handled COVID better overall compared with 32% who favored the Republicans’ approach. The result held up based on age group, too.
