The popular cabinet minister is expected to continue in his role after giving his would-be boss a major boost by endorsing her in the wake of the first official party hustings.
Therese Coffey is a key Truss ally, and may get given the Health brief – which some may consider a hospital pass in the current climate The Chief Secretary to the Treasury is tipped to take on the office currently held by Greg Clark and a key part of Johnson’s agenda.The former Northern Ireland Secretary, who initially backed Zahawi before pledging his support to Truss, could be in line for Dominic Raab’s job.
Cop26 chief Alok Sharma might have expected to be in the frame for the role after last year’s conference, growing concern around the climate and drought across much of the UK.Leadership rival Penny Mordaunt can expect the offer of a Cabinet brief, but is rumoured to have turned down some jobs already, with whispers that she may become Transport Secretary.
Robert Jenrick has been rumoured to be a possible cabinet appointment. By offering him a minor role, Truss may feel that she can be seen to have extended an olive branch to Sunak supporters.
