Sadie Sink opens up about her casting process on StrangerThings “I just begged and pleaded with them to give me more material so I could show them something fresh.'
Stranger Things star Sadie Sink details the show's casting process, saying she begged for her role as Max. Sink rose to fame thanks to her breakout part in Netflix's hit series, and has gone on to also play Ziggy Berman in the horror film trilogy Fear Street. She is currently set to star in the psychological drama film The Whale, which comes out later this year.
Joining Stranger Things in season 2, Sink's Max was the new girl from California, who goes to Eleven, Will, Lucas, Dustin, and Mike's school. She quickly befriends the kids, getting introduced to all the mysteries of the Upside Down and all the other supernatural happenings in Hawkins they uncover. Although Sink’s Max was originally introduced in season 2, it wasn't until season 4 that the star truly got to shine.
“I just begged and pleaded with them to give me more material so I could show them something fresh." Although Sink eventually got the role of Max, as she wanted, it is curious she almost wasn't cast because casting directors thought she was too old at 14. After all, Matarazzo and Wolfhard were born the same year as her and McLaughlin is a year older, and all the characters they portray in the series are supposed to be the same age. It's interesting that Sink got singled out for that reason.
Sink's determination to play Max despite the judgment and the fact that she felt the role was right for her show her passion for the character. And her passion has continued too, as she's recently said she'd be open to playing Max for as long as they’d like her to.
